Vehicle checks before remapping — what we look for

The most important part of any remap happens before the laptop comes out. Here's what a proper pre-remap health check involves and why you should never skip it.

Why the check matters

A remap asks more of the engine — more boost, more torque, more heat. If something is already weak, tuning can turn a small problem into an expensive one. A health check catches those problems first, which is why we include one with every single job.

What we actually check

A proper pre-remap inspection goes well beyond reading fault codes:

  • Full system diagnostic scan across all modules
  • Live data — boost pressure, fuel rail pressure, sensor readings
  • Stored and pending fault codes, properly interpreted
  • Visible checks — leaks, perished hoses, general engine condition
  • Service history and maintenance questions — oil, plugs, filters

What happens if we find something

We tell you straight. Sometimes it's a cheap fix — a coil pack or a split hose — and the remap can go ahead after. Sometimes it's a sign the car needs work first. Either way, you'd rather know before the map than after.

How you can prepare

Fresh oil and a recent service help any tune. If your car is due a service, has a warning light on, or hasn't been looked at in a while, mention it when you book — we'd rather plan around it than discover it on your driveway.
